Amy Winehouse Still Hospitalized, More Tests to Come

British soul singer Amy Winehouse has not returned home after fainting Monday afternoon and being hospitalized. Since the cause of her swoon has not been determined yet, she will undergo further tests.

The 24-year-old singer fainted at her London home Monday afternoon. Luckily, she was not alone. Her manager’s assistant kept her from falling to the ground, according to reports and her father rushed her to the hospital just to be sure that she was alright.

Winehouse was supposed to be released from the London Clinic but remained there Tuesday for more tests. Mitch Winehouse’s idea to have her checked by a doctor, although just “as a precaution,” seems to have been a very good one.

“She’s staying there for the time being,” a spokesman said, as quoted by Reuters. As the medical staff is “still not quite sure” what happened and the tests were “inconclusive,” Winehouse will remain under observation for the time being.

Perhaps the rest will do the Grammy-winning songstress good, as her recent public appearances showed her pale and increasingly thin.

The state of her health has been a reason of worry before for family, friends and fans alike. Last year she was hospitalized for severe exhaustion, as it was explained at the time, but it soon became clear she was battling a drug problem.

She was reported to have checked in and out of several rehabilitation facilities but it was only in January that she entered and remained in a rehab clinic for a longer period of time. It seemed helpful.

Although she did not manage to attend this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony in February, Winehouse performed via satellite from London and looked more fit and healthy than she had in months.

Though an ocean away, she was also the night’s big winner, as she collected five trophies, including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

She is still expected to perform at a Nelson Mandela birthday concert in London’s Hyde Park on June 27, as previously scheduled.
