Brit singer Amy Winehouse and her husband were involved in an incident that left them both full of cuts and bruises.
British tabloids report today that Amy Winehouse is defending her husband of three months, Blake Fielder-Civil, saying that, if anything, he has saved her life.
Disturbing photographs have been published, showing the couple all bloodied and bruised.
The Daily Mail reports that guests at the Sanderson Hotel in London called the police early Thursday morning when Amy and Blake appeared to have had quite a violent fight. The singer refused to press charges.
The photos show Amy with cuts on her face and arms, a cut-up bloody knee and pink ballet shoes stained with blood. Blake likewise has deeper cuts on his face and neck and blood stains on his clothes.
Witnesses say Amy literally ran away from the hotel, got a ride from some girls driving their car by, all this time with Blake running after her and calling her name. The two had been staying at the posh hotel after having left the Essex rehab clinic.
They reportedly reunited an hour later and probably settled out their differences, as they were once more photographed, this time holding hands and staying close to each other. Several hours later, blood washed away, the two went out for a walk.
The Daily Mail quotes a Scotland Yard spokesperson: “Following a third party report to police regarding suspected injuries to a woman in her 20s, police officers spoke with the woman and no criminal offences have been alleged.”
Amy, 23, has also responded to comments on celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton’s site, defending Blake Fielder-Civil.
“Blake is the best man in the world,” Amy wrote. “We would never ever harm each other. I was cutting myself after he found me in our room about to do drugs with a call girl and rightly said I wasn’t good enough for him. I lost it and he saved my life.”
“I’ll be alright. I need to fight my man’s corner for him though,” she added.
Amy insisted that Blake never hurt her and that the stories printed in the media about him are not a fair description.
There has been much talk about the couple’s shared drug and alcohol addictions, following their hush-hush marriage in May. Amy has cancelled her scheduled U.S. and Canadian tour dates for September, as she “has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health.”
