Despite her recent health problems, the British singer Amy
Winehouse has performed at Nelson Mandela birthday concert held in Hyde Park.
Last week, Amy Winehouse was checked into the London Clinic
after she briefly fainted. Few days later, her father revealed in an interview
that her daughter was diagnosed with emphysema.
However, her publicist explained later that the British
singer, who won five Grammy awards this year, has only a debut of emphysema.
While her appearance at the Nelson Mandela birthday concert
was uncertain, Amy Winehouse made it to the rehearsal on Friday afternoon.
During the concert, she made hear first appearance together with
the rest of the performers to sing "Happy Birthday" to Nelson Mandela.
After the first two hours of the show, she took the stage to
perform her famous song “Rehab”. During the song, “she looked a bit...vacant”, BBC noted.
However, she received big cheers from the crowd and she performed
her second song of the show, “Valerie”. She left the stage after introducing
the next act, the Soweto Gospel Choir.
Amy Winehouse has come back out at the final act of the
concert to join Jerry Dammers in singing the Specials' song Free Nelson Mandela,
together with the rockers from Queen.
The singer is also scheduled to perform tomorrow at Glastonbury festival and
earlier this week her dad, Mitch Winehouse, confirmed that she will be well
enough to fill in her slot at Pyramid Stage.
