British songbird Amy Winehouse, whose health has been raising concerns for a long time, was hospitalized over the weekend to undergo tests on her chest and lungs, her spokesman told People.
The 25-year-old singer returned to the same medical facility where she underwent rehab, the London Clinic, on Saturday. Unless doctors find that her emphysema, for which she was admitted back in June, has returned, Winehouse "is expected to return home soon."
The latest hospital trip follows a visit from a physician on Thursday last week when the singer became ill. Her condition had worsened by Saturday and she had to be taken to the clinic for more tests.
"They wanted to do some tests as a precaution," her rep was quoted by People as saying. "Obviously she had lung and chest problems which she had treatment for not so long ago, so they’re just making sure." He denied initial tabloid reports which suggested the singer had begun another course of rehab.
Back in June, the musician's father told the press that she was suffering from emphysema, for which she spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, and said that she would die if she does not quit smoking cigarettes and crack cocaine.
"The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her," Mitch Winehouse said at the time. "There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She has 70 percent lung capacity."
Soon afterward, Winehouse's camp clarified those comments, insisting tests showed she merely had early symptoms of the chronic respiratory disease.
In July, Winehouse was admitted to the emergency room of a London hospital after suffering a reaction to medication following another stay due to lung problems.
Since she was diagnosed, the singer wasn't spotted smoking or out partying too often. Sources told British newspaper The Mirror that when Winehouse arrived at the hospital she "looked painfully thin with yellow teeth."
From the looks of it, Winehouse is either getting better or near the end of the line. She’s hardly been seen out drinking, drugging, or getting aggressive with the paparazzi or the fans. That means things are either getting a lot better or a lot worse, and since it’s all happening behind closed doors, we have no way to know which it is.
Right before she got ill, the mischievous British singer was supposed to meet with the police on Wednesday with regard to her alleged punching of a fan last month. After asking for an autograph, Serene Flash alleges that Amy punched her in the face. Unfortunately, the "Rehab" singer didn’t show up for the hearing and could be facing additional disciplinary action. Regarding rumors that the singer is facing arrest for assault, her rep denied the reports calling the "story" inaccurate. "She is not facing arrest but will be working with police to answer any questions they may have regarding this allegation," her rep told Access Hollywood.
Speaking about Winehouse's missing appointment with the police, a friend of singer told a British newspaper that, "She’s doing so many drugs she is completely out of it. It’s hardly surprising she missed the interview."
