Amy Poehler, one of “Saturday Night Live's” anchors, has given birth on Saturday to her and husband Will Arnett’s first born son, Archie Arnett. The news was made public on the popular show, during the “Weekend Update” section, by her co-anchor Seth Meyers. In his own words, his co-host’s chair was empty because she was “having a baby”. The baby is healthy, weighing 8 lbs. and 1 oz., according to Poehler’s representative, Lewis Kay.
Amy Poehler was born in 1971, and is both a comedian as well as a full-fledged actress. She had a small, yet pivotal part in the movie “Mean Girls,” accompanied by Tina Fey. “Mean Girls” came as close as a comedy can to being a cult-movie, portraying the effect of cliques in high schools.
The duo also took over the movie “Baby Mama”, in 2008. On top of everything else, the actress was the fist “Saturday Night Live” cast member to be nominated at the Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series”. Poehler and her husband played the parts of two teamed-up figure skaters in 2007’s “Blades of Glory.”
On a DVD bonus, there’s a scene where the couple briefly breaks character and talks about wanting to have a baby – “a Sean Penn-like child”, preferably.
If rumors are true, Amy Poehler will leave “Saturday Night Live” in favor of a new NBC sitcom she will star in. Given Amy’s success on the show and the wonderful entertainment she and Fey provide with their flawless and hilarious interpretations, it’s no wonder that “Saturday Night Live” die-hard fans are wondering whether the show will be just as popular without her or if her absence will cause a drop in ratings. Nevertheless, we can still enjoy Poehler on SNL until the end of this season.
