Amy Poehler is a popular American comedian, who also dabbled in acting in the last few years. She is best known to the American public by her impersonation of a news anchor on the popular “Saturday Night Live” along with other comedic performances and parts on the show.
She has been a cast member of Saturday Night Live from 2001. In 2004, she played the hilarious character of Mrs. George, the mother of the high school queen bee, in hit movie “Mean Girls”, alongside Saturday Night Live co-host Tina Fey. In 2008, the two worked together again on the movie “Baby Mama”. Amy Poehler was the first cast member of Saturday Night Live to be nominated at the Emmy Awards in the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
After Amy Poehler gave birth to her baby, she decided to end her career with Saturday Night Live. However, she returned to the show after giving birth to her son, Archie. In fact she appeared on the show just last week, taking her usual spot at the news desk. This week, she made another appearance when she said her farewell to the show and the audience.
Amy Poehler, visibly emotional, said that she “just wanted to thank everybody, this is my last show. It has been an amazing experience to be here. Being able to do over a 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true and from the bottom of my heart...” At that point, in true Saturday Night Live spirit, Fred Amisen interrupted her, playing New York’s blind governor, David Patterson, prompting the expected hilarity.
