“Saturday Night Live” star Amy Poehler and her comedian
husband Will Arnett welcomed their first child Saturday, Oct. 25, a healthy baby boy they’ve named
Archie Arnett.
Comedians Amy Poehler and Will Arnett became parents
Saturday to a baby boy who weighed in at 8
lbs., 1oz., the couple’s representative, Lewis Kay, said
in a statement, adding that “Amy, Will and Archie are all healthy and resting comfortably.”
This is the first child for the couple. Poehler, 37,
revealed in April that she and Arnett, 38, were expecting a baby, telling
People magazine she felt “overwhelmed with blessings.” The two have been
married since 2003.
Archie Arnett was heralded into the world by Seth Meyers, Amy
Poehler’s co-anchor on “Saturday Night Live’s” segment “Weekend Update,” who
told viewers Poehler had not been able to join them that night because she was
“having a baby.”
Maya Rudolph, former longtime SNL cast member and a special
guest this weekend, sang a special song for Poehler together with current cast
member Kenan Thompson.
Amy Poehler has been on SNL since 2001 and is the first cast
member in the show’s history to be nominated in the Outstanding Supporting
Actress in a Comedy Series category at the Emmy Awards.
Will Arnett had his career breakthrough in 2003, when he was
cast in the immensely popular comedy series “Arrested Development,” receiving an
Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Poehler and Arnett co-starred in the 2007 comedy “Blades of
Glory” as a brother/sister pairs figure skating team.
Poehler has also starred in “Mean Girls” and “Baby Mama,”
alongside former SNL cast member and head writer Tina Fey. She revealed last
month that she would leave SNL and star in her own as-yet-untitled sitcom on
NBC.
Arnett is currently shooting the Disney comedy “When in Rome”
with Kristen Bell.
