Amy Poehler, the “Saturday Night Live” cast member who played Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, missed shooting this week because she gave birth to a boy. Seth Meyers announced the fans of the show on Saturday that Poehler will pass the episode “because she's having a baby."
Meyers co-hosts “Weekend Update” newscast parody with Poehler, but this Saturday, he had to manage it by himself.
Poehler is married to actor Will Arnett and on Saturday she gave birth to their son, Archie Arnett, in New York. An NBC statement announced that the baby was healthy and weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce while his parents were resting in the hospital.
Hilary Clinton’s double at “SNL” didn’t stop working at the show even if her pregnancy was visible all the season. In addition, Poehler appeared on Thursday’s special prime time edition of “Saturday Night Live,” but the shows on Friday and Saturday had to be rewritten because Archie was a little anxious to see the world.
Poehler is now in her eight season with “SNL,” but, like she declared, it’s possible not to return to the show after she gives birth. Before joining the crew at NBC, she was part of a Chicago comedy scene together with ImprovOlympic, Second City touring company and Upright Citizens Brigade.
Maya Rudolph was the one who replaced Poehler on Saturday and played Michelle Obama, the wife of the Democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama. Rudolph was a former “SNL” cast member, but she came back to help close Poehler’s “Update.”
