America’s favorite talent show
is back on air starting this week, as Fox announced a two-night season premiere
of “American Idol” on Tuesday and Wednesday 8/7 c. Coming after four years of
being the number one show and breaking all audiences,”American Idol” is ready
to set a new record this year, as the Writers Guild of America’s strike already
weakened most of the competition.
Season 7 of the “American Idol”
is said to outnumber the viewers of the previous season, and not only the show
itself is expected to raise so much interest, but also everything about the
contestants or judges. Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer, is most optimistic
about the beginning of the new series, as he said this will be one of the strongest
groups of contestants since almost the beginning of the show.
Who will be this year’s winner? America
will vote, and hopefully with more enthusiasm and better intuition than in
previous years, as album sales of idols have not been as high as one would
expect. Idol winners like Taylor Hicks (Season 5) and Ruben Studdard (Season 2)
haven’t exactly managed to keep up with their recording career.
However, some winners like Kelly
Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, and runner-ups, like Chris Daughtry, made their
debut into the music business and had an outstanding success, with multiple
Grammy nominees and millions of album sales. Chris Daughtry’s debut album sold
3.6 million copies last year, but he was one of the few whose career really
took off.
Fox couldn’t be happier with its
show, considering the unbelievable amount of revenue the media assumes it
generated. Although no exact figure has been disclosed by any of the Fox representatives
or the producers, it is believed to have collected approximately $810 million in the past year,
and this year’s estimations are up 20%.
What are the assets that make
this show so big? Well, for starters, the judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and
Randy Jackson, the acid comments of Simon and the regular disputes between him
and Paula, which makes the show so delicious. Of course, we could not forget
about the competitors, who have been announced to be better than ever, but that’s
something they’ll have to convince the American viewers of, starting with
Tuesday season premiere on Fox.
