American Idol is one of the most successful reality television shows in the history of American entertainment. Reality television has suffered a boom during the last years, as laws on what is allowed on television made it possible for these shows to take off.
American Idol is basically a nationwide talent show. The crew travels all over the United States and hosts large auditions that can last for days. As American Idol is a talent show based on singing – thus, the contestants are asked to demonstrate their vocal abilities. Their potential is judged by a panel of judges. So far, these judges have been namely Randy Jackson, a record producer and music manager, Paula Abdul, the famous pop-singer and choreographer, music manager and music executive Simon Cowell and, replacing sweetheart Nigel Lythgoe for the 8th season that has premiered last night, songwriter Kara DioGuardi.
Both Simon Cowell and newcomer Kara DioGuardi are of the opinion that the males are the strongest this season. You will certainly have enough contestants to choose from, as this edition will feature 36 semifinalists. Also, there will be a “Wild Card” in the form of a returning contestant – and these are just the released surprises.
The contestants that seem to be the favorites this year are Scott MacIntyre, probably the first blind singer on Idol, Emily Wynne-Hughes, a rocker girl, Stevie Wright, similar to Kelly Clarkson, Michael Sarver, an oil-rig worker, Alex Wagner-Trugman, who bears resemblance to Clay Aiken and Deanna Brown, who gave off a country-rock vibe.
