The fifth audition episode of the “American Idol” took place in the Sunshine State and it marked the first of three audition episodes scheduled for this week.
The first contestant was a guy named Joshus Ulloa. He seemed to be quite thrilled of being compared to Justin Guarini without realizing how silly he was. He ran into the audition room and did some posing before he started singing "Let's Get It On," by Marvin Gaye. As unbelievable as it may seem, he was not actually a bad singer and in spite of all the stupid performance stuff he did, like beat-boxing, sound effects, the four judges gave him a yes.
Sharon Wilbur was a cute girl who came accompanied by her dog, which ended up somehow in Simon’s arms. The girl successfully sang some Karen Carpenter even though she sounded a little different, with some cool rasp in her voice kind of way. The result: Sharon eventually managed to clear her way to Hollywood. Hmm, maybe it was more because of the dog...
Dana Moreno was a contestant that there are not many things to say about. Shortly, she had no excuse for her poor performance, both in singing and in outfit.
16-year-old Kaneswe Finnie very confidently sang some Anita Baker. The girl was encouraged by her mom who was even more confident. Unfortunately for the both of them, Kaneswe was terrible. Simon told her how awful her performance was but the contestant disagreed.
The representative of the Latino community was 19-year-old Julissa Veloz. She seemed to be quite an annoying young lady at first, but that was until she started singing. She was not great, but she sang out of tune which helped her big-ish voice. After criticizing and making fun of her for a while, Simon decided to go softer on the girl and gave her the fourth yes she needed to get through.
Darin Darnell turned out to be a very sociable and full of energy kind of guy. He made a lot of friends while waiting for his turn to audition. He tried to reproduce some Boyz II Men but he was awful. After Simon easily rejected him, Darin left the room a crumpled mess of silly emotions.
The first day ended with Naomi Sykes, who brought a Randy Jackson fan with her, who really wanted to meet him. Naomi sang “Loving You,” by Manny Riperton and she was remarkably terrible.
On the second day, 16-year-old Jasmine Murray sang Fergie’s "Big Girls Don't Cry."
Her performance turned out to be even better than the original so the girl made it through to Hollywood.
As for the second contestant, well...he was at least awkward. George Ramirez was a terrible singer. Maybe he should just stick to physics that he said he loved so much and forget about music. Or at least he should stick to just LISTENING to music and mind his own nerdy business.
Anne Marie Velasquez was really good. Too bad she was very shy, which made Simon send her away, telling her to come back as a different person.
T.K. Hash was a contestant who got rejected last year but he did not give up on his dream of becoming a star. While singing John Lennon's "Imagine," he did well on the high notes but eventually blew everything. Despite that, all judges except for Simon gave him a yes.
Michael Perelli – the man is a guitar playin' fool who panicked once he found out that he could not bring his guitar into the audition. He was not a great singer, but the tears from the pre-interview had quite an effect on him. Unfortunately, he does not receive the golden ticket, which disappoints his family. He also turns out to be a crybaby.
Anne Marie Boskovich seems to be way more normal than most contestants. She looked good and probably made it through as well.
As for the crew, next stop, Salt Lake City!
