South Florida authorities
canceled an amber alert for two little girls after they were found safe.
Three-year-old Vanessa Rivas and seven-year-old Frida
Gonzalez were reported missing from Homestead, about 30 miles away, late Sunday.
According to family members at the time, the girls may have
been abducted by a 50-year-old Hispanic man, possibly named Juan, who moved
into the area 15 days ago, the Homestead
police said, the Sun-Sentinel reports. The last time the two girls were seen was
early Sunday in the area of north East 3rd Terrace in Homestead.
The amber alert for the two girls was canceled just before
10:30 a.m. Monday by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, who said the
case was resolved and the children were found in Hialeah Gardens.
A Homestead
police representative said officers were on their way to pick up the girl and
take a suspect into custody.
Police also say both girls appeared to be in “good condition”
when they were found.
They are grateful the Amber alert worked so well. “This is a
parent’s worst nightmare, to imagine that your children could be taken
especially right from your own home. But I tell you this is an example of the
system working well,” Homestead Mayor, Linda Bell said, according to CBS4.com.
No charges have been filed yet, but kidnapping charges could
be filed later. Being a Mexican citizen, the suspect also faces deportation to
his native country.
