Amazon.com announced the availability of a new app for
iPhone and iPod that allows users to search and browse for products from Amazon
and other retailers directly from their devices.
The offering includes an experimental feature called “Amazon
Remembers” , which helps users keep track of items they see. Furthermore, users
can take pictures of items and compare them with photos of the same or of
similar products available online on Amazon.com.
Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, explained the new app
was designed to be a quick and easy way for users to shop directly from their
iPhones and iPods.
If they do not wish to make a purchase immediately, the
Amazon Remembers stores it in their Amazon account. Customers can make visual
lists of what they want to buy, and browse through products, even while
on-the-go.
“We’re also really excited about Amazon Remembers because it’s
a fun and useful way to use the iPhone camera to find and remember items while
on-the-go,” Hall said.
Customers will also be able to access popular shopping features
such as Customer Reviews, and purchase using 1-Click Shopping and Amazon Prime,
and shop from various retailers, including Target and Macy’s.
This will come in handy for registered members, who will
find purchasing even easier than before, and accessible from anywhere.
The application can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store on
iPhone and iPod touch, or from www.itunes.com/appstore.
