According to the report released by Amazon, the operating cash flow was $1.70 billion in 2008, compared to $1.41 billion the year before. In addition to that, free cash flow went up 16% compared to 2007.

 

The most outstanding results were however the net sales, which showed an 18% increase to $6.70 billion in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared to $5.67 billion in the same period last year. Overall, net sales have increased 29 percent in Q4 of 2008 to $19.17 billion, compared to $14.84 billion in 2007.

 

The operating income was $272 million, close to the operating income in the fourth quarter of 2007. In addition to that, the net income reached $225 million, 9 percent higher than in the fourth quarter of the year before.

 

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, said in a statement: We remain relentlessly focused on serving customers with low prices, great selection and free shipping offers, including Amazon Prime. We’re particularly grateful for the unusually strong demand for Kindle in the fourth quarter.

 

Amazon announced at the end of last year that its first-generation Kindle was out of stock, and it won’t be again available until February 2009.

 

However, rumors have it that next month, Amazon will introduce the much talked about second-generation Kindle. The device has not been officially confirmed so far, although pictures of it have been circulating the media, courtesy of The Boy Genius Report.
