Amazon is planning on releasing a new service for content
delivery, which is still in the making and should be ready by the end of the
year. According to their announcement, the service will offer a high
performance way of distributing content to customers all over the world.
The content delivery service is intended to meet the
following goals: allow developers and businesses to get started easily, with no
dollar or volume commitments, in a pay-as-you-go service; be a simple and easy
to use service; work seamlessly with Amazon S3; and have a global presence,
using edge locations on three continents for the best delivery to the most
appropriate location.
According to Amazon, clients will start by storing their
content in an Amazon S3 bucket and then making the content as publicly
readable; afterwards, they’ll need to make an API call to register the bucket,
which will provide them with a domain name that they’ll use to refer to their
content in their web page or application.
The new service is still in its beta testing, and although
it is much similar to the Simple Storage System that Amazon customers now have,
the new one promises better performance, with low latency and high data
transfer rates that will serve customers across America, Europe and Asia.
With still no information on the final name of the service or
the pricing, Amazon promises it will be an easy-to-use service, with no
contract complications and fit to serve the wide base of Amazon customers.
