Amazon yesterday announced the availability of a new application for iPhone and iPod touch, which will grant users access to 240,000 books from their devices through the multi-touch user interface. The application is now available on the App Store for free.
The Whispersync technology will help customers save and synchronize their bookmarks across their original Kindle, Kindle 2, iPhone, and iPod touch, Amazon said.
“Kindle for iPhone and iPod touch is a great way for customers to catch up on their current book wherever they are, like in line at the grocery store or between meetings.” said Ian Freed, vice president Amazon Kindle.
The application is already available on the App Store, and considering all the momentum created around Kindle 2 at this time, it might even have success.
What I don’t get though is why would anyone want to read a book on their phone? I appreciate all this new technology and all, but at the end of the day, I would still love to have a real book in my hands, rather than a minuscule device trying to imitate one.
On the other hand, it’s a matter of choice, and for those who do appreciate Kindle, having this app also available on their iPhone and iPod touch might actually come in handy. Users will be able to adjust the text size of books, access Amazon’s entire library, add bookmarks, view notes and highlights and more.
