Amazon Gets Into Gaming With 600 PC Titles For Casual Gamers

Amazon is expanding its reach into all new categories of content, the latest of which addresses gamers. Stopping by Amazon’s website will now give access to a library of over 600 PC games that can be either experienced through free limited trials or purchased for less than $10.

For now, this is a beta launch of what Amazon called the downloadable games space, probably a permanent future asset of the Amazon store.

The Amazon Game Downloads store debuts with an offer of three free, full-version games, namely Jewel Quest 2, The Scruffs and Build A Lot, all of which will be available throughout the next week, according to Amazon.

Users must be warned that the game library is dedicated to casual PC gamers, who can try absolutely every game for 30 minutes before deciding to purchase anything. Warning, core gamers need not prepare to empty their pockets.

The games are XP/Vista compatible, and their prices range from $6.99 (for games such as Cradle of Persia, Big Kahuna Reef 2, Real Estate Empire) to $9.99 (for titles such as Natalie Brooks: The Treasure of the Lost Kingdom, Pageant Princess, Orchard and more).

Amazon also announced that since this is just a beta, some things should be expected to change, namely the Game Downloads store itself, which will evolve over time. Furthermore, the games available at this point are for PC only, but Mac users should expect that to change in the future as well.
