Katie Holmes, who used to be a TV primetime drama sweetheart
in “Dawson’s Creek,” is a whole
different and grown up woman. Now married with hottie Tom Cruise and mother of
Suri, born on April 18, 2006,
Katie also focuses her attention toward more serious acting, as she won’t
define herself only as Tom’s wife, Tom’s child’s mother and Tom’s religion
follower.
She made her much expected debut on Broadway Thursday night,
in Arthur Miller’s play “All My Sons,” where critics say she did pretty well,
considering the much older and more experienced fellow actors, Tony winner John
Lithgow, Oscar winner Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson.
But her biggest critic and fan, husband Tom Cruise, although
fully supportive and saying that she was “extraordinary” playing her part and
that he was “so proud of her,” managed to make a little thunder stealing
appearance, both inside and outside the Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway.
Tom’s presence created waves among the people present at the
play preview, as he posed for photographers, gave out autographs for fans and
answered questions for reporters, which kind of shifted everybody’s attention
from the stage to Mr. Cruise’s bangs.
Meanwhile, outside the theater, on the sidewalk, protesters
were holding up anti-Scientology “Free Katie” banners, with funny twists like
“Run, Katie, Run! (And take Beck with you)” or “Free Katie, Keep Tom!”
Anonymous, as the group of anti- Scientology protesters call
themselves, seems to think that the young Katie doesn’t know what she’s doing
or has been mysteriously brain-washed or something by the members of her
husband’s church.
But no worries, Katie seems fine, the Cruises seem more in
love than ever and even her career is going upwards, so be the Scientologists how
they may, whatever they’re doing, it seems to work just fine for her and she
doesn’t appear to want out.
