A police station was blown up by a suicide bomber in a town
east of Algiers on Wednesday. Four
officers were killed and almost 20 were injured.
This attack comes after the double suicide bombings which
occurred on December 11. The two bombs hit the United Nations offices and a
government building in Algiers
killing 37 people.
Two people witnessed the bomb attack on Wednesday in Naciria
and said that the car was racing towards the police station and exploded. The
two witnesses were a journalist and a resident, according to the New York
Times.
According to the Interior Ministry, four officers were
killed and 20 people were injured, including eight officers. No other details
were provided.
Al Arabiya satellite television said that Al Qaeda in the
Islamic Maghreb is the one who carried the attack, but afterwards dropped the
report.
On Thursday the responsibility for the attack was claimed by
Al Qaeda in
Islamic North Africa through a statement on their website.
The statement said: "With the grace and guidance of
God, he surprised the apostates and destroyed the entire headquarters over
their heads, leaving behind dozens of dead and injured among the police,"
FoxNews.com informs.
The statement also had a picture of the one who carried the
attack.
It said that there are still "lines of martyrdom
lovers" who are prepared to take part in new attacks and ask the security
forces to "lay down their arms and remove themselves from the fight
against the mujahideen."
Abdullah al-Shaayani is the one who carried the attack and
the statement says that that the attack was a justification of the fact that
the security forces “torture Muslim youth and shove them into dark prisons
while waging war on jihad and the Mujahideen on behalf of their masters in the Elysee
Palace and the White House.”
