Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez and his wife of six years,
Cynthia Scurtis, are reportedly putting an end to their marriage and are
expected to file for divorce Monday in Miami,
according to media reports.
Alex Rodriguez, 32, and Cynthia Scurtis married in November
2002 and welcomed their first child, daughter Natasha Alexander, in November
2004. Their second child, daughter Ella Alexander, was born in April of this
year.
The months elapsing since their second child’s birth have
not been tranquil ones though, as the two spouses are reported to have drifted
apart. Rumors have been persistent over the past few weeks, with Alex Rodriguez
being linked with musical superstar Madonna and Cynthia Scurtis being paired up
by the media with rock singer Lenny Kravitz.
Both spouses are expected to file for divorce Monday in a Miami family court,
reports the New York Daily News.
A lawyer for Cynthia Scurtis, Earle Lilly, explained in a
statement to the Daily News that the mother of two “has reached the end of her
ability to tolerate his continued marital misconduct.”
While Alex Rodriguez is a “terrific” baseball player,
continues Lilly, “he’s not going to make the all-star team” and “he’s not going
to get voted in” as a husband and father.
The media has been reporting that the Yankees player has
been having an affair with Madonna and this reportedly was the last straw for his
wife, who has allegedly had to cope with her husband’s wondering eye before.
Madonna tried to ward off the speculation by explaining last
week through her rep that she and Alex Rodriguez both have the same manager,
Guy Oseary, that they have met and that Madonna took her children to a Yankees
game last month.
“There’s really not anything to comment on beyond that,” the
rep concluded.
To no avail however, considering that soon after that
reports surfaced according to which Madonna had convinced Alex Rodriguez to
follow Kabbalah, an event Rodriguez’s former trainer Dodd Romero likened to
brainwashing.
Romero, who is godfather to the couple’s two daughters, told
the New York Post that Cynthia believes Alex Rodriguez’s interest in Kabbalah “ruined
the marriage.”
Madonna released another statement Sunday stating she is not
“romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez” and that she has no
connection with the state of his marriage or the spiritual path he may choose.
