Four weeks after Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce from New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, the baseball player issued his own set of legal documents asking that the original pre-nuptial agreement with his estranged wife stand in their divorce battle, the New York Daily News reports.

According to newly released court papers, A-Rod admitted that the marriage is "irretrievably broken," enforcing his pre-nup and asking that any charges that he cheated on Cynthia be removed. Fortunately for the 33-year-old, who is the highest-paid player in baseball with a $275 million contract, Florida is a "no-fault state," so no explanations are needed. Under the state's law, pre-nups are generally enforceable unless the disputing party can prove that the agreement was signed under duress, there was fraud involved, the terms were "unreasonable," (meaning that one person keeps all the assets while the other gets nothing), or that one of the parties wasn’t fully aware of the other’s assets at the time.

Rodriguez's legal response argues that his wife's accusations that he emotionally abandoned her and their daughters Natasha, 3, and Ella, 3 months, and carried on "extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct" are "immaterial and impertinent and should be stricken."

Cynthia, who filed for divorce amid rumors of her hubby's alleged affair with Madonna, is seeking to maintain her "high standard of living" through alimony and child support as well as their $12 million estate and "equitable distribution" of all assets. However, A-Rod's documents state that "Husband denies any duty to support wife beyond those obligations specifically set out in the parties' prenuptial agreement."

Even though Madonna's name was not mentioned in Cynthia's court documents – filed July 7 – her attorney called the Yankee's association with the singer an "affair of the heart" and "the last straw." Madonna denied an affair with Rodriguez, and blamed the media and its gullible consumers for believing the reports about their affair.

Further on, A-Rod asked for shared custody of the children even though he admitted that Cynthia is in fact a "loving and nurturing mother." He also accepted to continue paying "reasonable and bona fide expenses" per a co-parenting agreement and wants shared responsibility for their "wealth, health, education and religious upbringing" in the future. However, the couple's daughters' are expected to spend more time with their mother due to A-Rod's busy schedule.  

"Husband is confident that he and wife will be able to continue to work with one another to co-parent their children together and that they will be able to agree upon a time-sharing schedule ... without the need for court intervention," the petition added.

According to his attorneys, Alan Kluger and Jason Marks, "husband requests that both parties are designated as 'co-residential' parents, realizing that the children are likely to spend more time with wife given the realities of husband's professional life."

Speaking out to The Insider, Kluger said that the estranged couple is going through some "difficult times" and neither they, nor their lawyers, "want to try this case in the press."
