Finally, New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez responds to his wife’s
request for divorce. It has been almost a month since things remained up the
air, without any statement from his part. According to People, court documents
that will be filed on Thursday state that Alex Rodriguez says his marriage is “irretrievably
broken,” criticizing Cynthia Rodriguez for talking about his alleged “extra
marital affairs and other marital misconduct.”
Alex Rodriguez also said that the prenup Cynthia signed in
2002 should be enough to settle their divorce. She signed the prenup “with the
assistance of counsel of her own choosing, freely and voluntarily ... and with
full and complete financial disclosure of husband's income, assets and
liabilities,” said the documents.
Moving on to the children, A-Rod wants shared responsibility
for their “wealth, health, education and religious upbringing,” saying that due
to his job, the children will spend more time with Cynthia, but he still wants to
share the custody, hoping they would agree on a time-sharing custody schedule
without interference from the court. The Yankee player admits that Cynthia is a
“loving and nurturing mother.”
Alex Rodriguez’s attorneys Alan Kluger and Jason Marks said
that “husband requests that both parties are designated as ‘co-residential’
parents, realizing that the children are likely to spend more time with wife
given the realities of husband's professional life,” reported People Magazine.
A-Rod agreed to pay child support and said he would ask the
court to establish a fair amount.
In her petition Cynthia Rodriguez asked for their $12
million waterfront estate and “equitable distribution” of all the assets that
were acquired during their five year marriage.
Also, Alan Kluger said that both parties wanted to take care
of the situation amicably.
“Cynthia and Alex are both very good people and they both
have the best interests of their kids at heart. This is a tough time for both
of them and they prefer to handle this matter as privately and amicably as
possible,” said Kluger, according to the New York Daily News.
