The Web 2.0 Summit ended in Al Gore’s words on what the future will bring, now that we’ve all seen America’s desire to change. With a new president elect, and a new direction to follow, Americans are looking toward a future with a well established purpose: renewable energy sources should become the primary or sole energy source within the next 10 years, Gore suggested.
During his keynote, Gore highlighted on major factor in succeeding this goal: combining the global warming fight with the Web 2.0, raising awareness on all levels and for all masses that we need to take a stand and re-connect with our planet. Furthermore, he explained, it is of extreme importance not only to spread the word, but also to make everyone understand that the danger is imminent and action needs to be taken now.
Gore compared the goal humanity needs to take on now with John F. Kennedy’s landing on the moon project: nobody thought it would be possible to do it by the end of the decade, yet it was.
Moreover, Gore talked about a unified national smart grid that should become a part of U.S.A.’s future, promoting advances in clean technology, renewable energy, and environmentally-friendly electric cars.
He stressed the need of creating such a grid, which will further help the country in solving its economic crisis, create jobs, and will help tackle one big issue for U.S. right now, often talked about by the presidential candidates: reducing dependency on foreign oil.
