The scene for the new massive multi-player online role-playing games (MMORPG) will soon be enriched with Funcom’s latest creation, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.
The game’s announcement has caused an immense positive response, as its online test phase has been visited by more than one million of its enthusiasts, the game has had over five million unique visitors and also, the total page views exceeds 70 million.
"We believe this represents the largest ever beta (test phase) sign-up figure in the history of this genre of games," Funcom said according to Reuters.
Preparations for the game involved the work of 200 people over a period of four years, while the costs add up to over $20 million.
Age of Conan will allow a large set of character development options, customizes skills, spells and abilities which will ensure every character’s uniqueness.
The set is based on Robert Howard’s vision, the story’s author. His work was previously presented by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1982 film "Conan the Barbarian".
The game is expected to launch on May 20 in North America and on May 23 in Europe.
The company also announced its results for the quarter which ended on March 31, 2008. Apparently, the the company’s sales were slightly up from last year’s $1.64 million to $1.80 million. Funcom’s cash balance was reported at $46.99 million.
