After yesterday BBFC (British Board of Film Classification)
banned Manhunt 2 in UK,
today Ireland
adopted the same decision.
In statement posted on its official web site Irish Film
Censor's Office (IFCO) explained that a prohibition order has been made in
relation to the video game Manhunt 2.
“IFCO recognizes that in certain films, DVDs and video
games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall
context of the work. However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that
there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous
violence is unacceptable.” the official statement reads.
Manhunt 2, scheduled for release on July 10, is the first
video game to be banned in Ireland.
"We are disappointed with the recent decision by the
British Board of Film Classification to refuse classification of Manhunt 2.
While we respect the authority of the classification board and will abide by
the rules, we emphatically disagree with this particular decision.” Rockstar
said yesterday about the British ban.
According to Associated Press, Rockstar spokesman Rodney
Walker said the company was evaluating the Irish ban. "We're going to look
at this on a country-by-country basis, but this game is really important to
us," Walker
said.
Manhunt 2 is the sequel of Manhunt, a game released in 2003
and rated as 18+ in UK and Ireland.
