Kelsey Grammer, the television star who suffered a heart
attack two months ago, was hospitalized Monday. The actor’s representative said
that Grammer was taken to a New York
hospital after feeling faint on Sunday. Stan Rosenfield, his spokesman, said
that the actor would remain in hospital overnight in order for the doctors to
determine the cause.
The 53-year-old actor, who became famous after playing the
lovable psychiatrist Dr. Fraiser Crane in “Fraiser” and also for his role in
“Cheers,” was taken to the hospital by his wife Camille.
“Kelsey felt faint last night so he went to the hospital to
have things checked out. They are altering his medications,” said Grammer’s
rep.
The actor suffered a heart attack on June 2, while he was on
vacation in Hawaii
with his family. He was taken to the local Kona
Community Hospital
and then he was transported to a Honolulu
hospital for treatment, being released after four days. Although it was said
that his heart attack was mild, the actor said that this were more serious than
that.
“We originally said it was just a mild heart attack, and it
actually wasn't very mild. They had to blast me twice and get me started all
over again,” the actor told “Entertainment Tonight.”
Grammer reportedly began to feel chest pains while
paddle-boarding with his wife and he was taken to a hospital, to find out he
suffered a heart attack. He acknowledged that he got scared, adding that he
wasn’t finished with this life.
“I did think: 'Oh gosh, I have got to hang on. I've got too
much junk I've got to take care of. I've got to take care of the family,” said
Grammer.
The 20 years psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane said that his
heart attack was because of the stress regarding the canceling of “Back to You”
sitcom. Grammer said that he was very surprised to learn that the sitcom was
canceled, adding that things had to move forward.
“…everything that doesn't kill us — which it almost did —
makes us stronger,” Kelsey Grammer told People Magazine.
“Back to You,” which also starred actress Patricia Heaton
from “Everybody Loves Raymond,” was cancelled in May after one season.
The actor seemed to be feeling pretty well in the last
period, being out promoting his new movie “Swing Vote,” which will premiere
Friday. The movie is about a U.S.
presidential election and it also stars Kevin Costner and Dennis Hopper. Kelsey
Grammer plays the role of the Republican President Andrew Boone.
His Dr. Fraiser Crane role was the longest-running role
portrayed by an actor in a prime time show with James Arness’ Marshall Matt
Dillon on “Gunsmoke” (1955 to 1975). Grammer was also a television producer,
director, writer and a voice artist.
Some earlier reports said that the actor suffered from
irregular heartbeats but his rep denied the reports. Unfortunately, Kelsey
Grammer will have to cancel some TV appearences. He was supposed to appear
at Late Night With Conan O’Brien and Live With Regis and Kelly.
