Comedian Bill Murray will make one very special appearance in
mid-August at the Chicago Air and Water Show, parachuting himself from a plane
onto North Avenue Beach.
A spokeswoman for the Mayor’s Office of Special Events has
confirmed that Bill Murray, 57, will parachute himself from a plane on August
15. He is jumping on behalf of USO of Illinois, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
The organization provides aid to wounded war vets at home and overseas.
Murray, who is a Chicago
native, will tandem jump with the Golden Knights skydiving team onto North Avenue
Beach. This year’s
edition is the 50th anniversary of the popular festival.
Not only will attendees have the treat of seeing the Academy
Award nominated actor fly through the air, but they will hear Florence
Henderson, the one and only Mrs. Brady, sing the national anthem.
Among celebrities which hail from Chicago
who are participating is actor Gary Sinise, of “CSI: New York” fame. He is scheduled to perform
with his band Lt. Dan Band (his character’s name in “Forrest Gump” was Lt. Dan
Taylor, a role he received an Academy Award nomination for).
The festivity will also include the traditional aerial
acrobatics performed by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Bill Murray received an Academy Award nomination for his
role in the Sofia Coppola-directed comedy drama “Lost in Translation.” His
earlier screen credits also include the “Ghostbusters” movies, “Caddyshack” and
“Groundhog Day.”
His more recent work includes “The Life Aquatic with Steve
Zissou,” “Broken Flowers,” “The Darjeeling Limited” and “Get Smart.”
