Aaron Sorkin, famous Hollywood scribe and creator of “The
West Wing,” is currently in negotiations to write a film project about the
founders of the most popular social networking site: Facebook.
The project is yet untitled but it will reportedly be
produced by Scott Rudin for Columbia.
Sorkin revealed his project-writing plans on the very social
networking site, where he opened up his own account, although he admitted he
has little Internet knowledge. On his profile, he explains that the account was
made by his researcher, Ian Reichbach, “because my grandmother has more
Internet savvy than I do and she’s been dead for 33 years.”
Sorkin tries to convince the Facebook community that he is
the real Hollywood writer, as there are a few other people with accounts under
his name – which he finds more flattering than creepy – and then he reveals his
intentions of writing a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin “about how
Facebook was invented.” He admitted that he set up his account to see what
Facebook was about, as he had no idea how it functioned.
In order to convince fans that he was the real Sorkin, the
writer has been responding to several questions about his work and posting
photos of him playing tennis. However, he did not reveal too many details
concerning the new film.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004,
while he was a Harvard student. He had no idea, back then, that Facebook would
become such an important Internet social phenomenon with more than 100 million
users all across the globe.
Membership was only granted, at first, to Ivy League
university students, then it was expanded to all universities and high schools
in the US and Canada, before being opened to Internet users all over the world.
Zuckerberg has so far been made offers of billions of
dollars, but he preferred to remain independent.
