Creator of successful productions, such as “The West Wing”
and “A Few Good Men,” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin is currently working on o movie
about the online social networking site “Facebook.”
Rumors of a new Sorkin production
have been confirmed by a Sony Pictures spokesman and by the writer himself, on
his own personal Facebook page where he talks about the project, although he
admits, the account is more his researcher’s work, Ian Reichbach, because, he
admits: “my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she's been dead
for 33 years.”
The world-renowned network was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in
2004 while studying at US university Harvard and it was only restricted to
Harvard students, then, as it gained popularity, extended to all Ivy League schools,
becoming, later a network for all the American and Canadian students, until it
grew into the ever-expanding social phenomenon of 100 million members
worldwide.
Although Facebook spokeswoman Brandee Barker did not confirm
the project and claims that other filmmakers are also interested by “the
Facebook story or the stories of the more than 100 million people who use
Facebook to share and make the world more open and connected.”, Aaron Sorkin
claims that he specifically created the account in research purposes, this
being “the first good step” in understanding “how this works.”
He was clearly convincing enough for more than 4,000 members
of the Facebook network who joined his group, as his first words in the
description box are “Welcome. I'm Aaron Sorkin. I understand there are a few
other people using Facebook pages under my name--which I find more flattering
than creepy--but this is me. I don't know how I can prove that but feel free to
test me.”
The other Sorkin-related profiles that he mentions are “What
if Aaron Sorkin was the Messiah?” “ Aaron Sorkin is a god,” “ The genius that
is Aaron Sorkin,” “ Aaron Sorkin for President” and last, but not least: “ I
Speak Sorkinese,” along with other less
flattering pages.
In closing, to quote Sorkin’s Post Scriptum on his Facebook
welcome note, I feel about this article the way I felt about Sophie's
Choice--It could have been funnier.
