The nominations for the 14th SAG awards, which frequently mirror Oscar nominations and winners, have been announced on Thursday.
The Catholic school drama "Doubt" dominated the nominations at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, receiving five nods.
The nominations for outstanding performance by a cast were earned by “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Doubt,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Milk.” For outstanding performance by a lead actor, the nominees include Richard Jenkins for “The Visitor,” Sean Penn for “Milk” and Brad Pitt for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” as well as Frank Langella for “Frost/Nixon” and Mickey Rourke for “The Wrestler.”
As for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress category, the nods were earned by Angelina Jolie (“Challenging”), Anne Hathaway (“Rachel Getting Married”), Kate Winslet (“Revolutionary Road”), Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”) and Meryl Streep (“Doubt”).
The nominations for outstanding performance by a supporting actor were received by Rober Downey Jr. for “Tropic Thunder,” Philip Seymour Hoffman for “Doubt,” Josh Brolin for “Milk,” Dev Patel for “Slumdog Millionaire” and the late Heath Ledger for “The Dark Knight.”
With regard to the Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress, the nominations are Penelope Cruz for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” Taraji P. Henson for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Viola Davis for “Doubt,” as well as Kate Winslet for “The Reader” and Amy Adams also for “Doubt.”
For Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a TV Comedy, the nods were received by Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock,” David Duchovry for “Californication,” Jeremy Piven for “Entourage,” Tony Shalhoub for “Monk” and Steve Carell for “The Office.”
As for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress in a TV Comedy, the nominees are America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”), Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”), Christina Applegate (“Samantha Who?”), Tracey Ullman (“Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union”) and Tina Fay (“30 Rock”).
