New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, commonly known as
A-Rod, has finally reached a divorce settlement with the mother of his
children, Cynthia Rodriguez, three months after they filed for official
separation.
Rodriguez promised in his divorce reply that he would
continue to support his daughters, and he said he hoped for a custody deal so
the couple could “co-parent their children together,” as both the father and
the mother of 3-year-old Natasha and 5-month-old Ella say their main concern is
the girls’ welfare.
Maurice Kutner, lawyer for Cynthia Rodriguez, reading from a
statement approved by the couple, said: “This was and remains a personal family
matter for both of them. All of their decisions were based upon and guided by
the best interests of their daughters.”
The couple, who married in November 2002, reportedly grew
apart because of A-Rod’s alleged repeated infidelities, especially the rumored
romance with pop-star Madonna, although both Mrs. Ritchie and Rodriguez denied
that they ever had a “thing.”
A source close to Cynthia, as quoted by People magazine,
says she is happy with the agreement, although the terms of the deal were not
released. “Cynthia is in New York
for a few days and quite happy with the divorce settlement," said the
source. "It is all settled and each Rodriguez is ready to move on.”
Meanwhile, A-Rod goes back to being a much desired bachelor
and baseball’s highest-paid player, as he is in the first year of a 10-year
deal with the Yankees that will pay him at least $275 million.
