Last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live presented once again Tina Fay as the Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, in the show’s opening sketch.
Amy Poehler was also present, but this time she did not appear as Hillary Clinton, as the sketch was related to Palin’s interview with CBS’s Katie Couric, that happened earlier this week.
The show was filled with funny shot taken at Palin’s expense. When asked about her plan to help facilitate democracy abroad, Fay answered "Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines. ... I want to phone a friend." After explaining that this is not the way the interview works, Couric received one of Palin’s best known lines: "Well, in that case, I'm just gonna have to get back to ya."
Even though Tina Fay is currently involved in NBC’s full-time project 30 Rock, she agreed to return for these appearances on SNL, as her first impersonation of Sarah Palin, which happenend two weeks ago, was a huge hit, significantly boosting the ratings of this season’s first episode. She stated that she wants to quit these impersonations by November and focus on her projects.
Chris Parnell also returned to the show to play presidential debate moderator Jim Lehrer in a sketch about the debate between John McCain and Democratic rival Barack Obama, which ended just 26 hours before the live show.
Considering the fact that there is just over a month before the election, people should expect to see a lot more of these politics-loaded sketches, as it is ideed the country’s hottest topic.
