A new debate has ignited the web and the blogosphere after a
journalist Philadelphia's City Paper weekly reported on a blog that Barack
Obama was seen in a gym carrying a ..Zune.
As you might remember Zune is Microsoft’s response to Apple’s
iPod, released two years ago and revamped with new models and firmware earlier
this year.
In fact, the writer was reporting about his encounter with
Barack Obama in a gym, but the Zune detail caught the bloggers’ attention and
in a matter a minutes a new debate has ignited all over the Web: is Barack
Obama a Zune guy? He is known as a Mac guy and as a BlackBerry user.
However, an Obama spokesperson was quick to clarify for The
Wall Street Journal that the President-elect was carrying in fact an iPod and
not a Zune. “Not true, the President-elect uses an iPod,” he said for The Wall
Street Journal.
In a clarification posted few hours later, Neal Santos from City
Paper weekly noted that he definitely saw a “Zune in action”, but he admitted
that the device could belong to one of the Secret Service guys who were
protecting the President-elect.
Despite Microsoft’s efforts to promote its gadget, Zune
remained a distant contender for Apple’s iPod, which currently dominates the MP3
players market with a 70 percent share.
But an official endorsement from Barack Obama could mean a
lot for Zune. Unfortunately, it seems like the President-elect is an iPod guy
after all.
