Rapper DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was arrested in
a Phoenix mall
Saturday and charged with identity theft in relation to a hospital visit,
police said.
Simmons gave a false name and Social Security number to a
hospital to get out of paying for medical expenses.
According to the Associated Press, Maricopa County Sheriff
Joe Arpaio said that DMX went to Scottsdale's
Mayo Clinic in April, under the name “Troy Jones” and then he failed to pay a
$7,500 bill, worth of medical care for pneumonia.
The rapper’s attorney, Cameron Morgan, declined to comment
on the matter.
Mr. Arpaio said his office started investigating the charge
after an animal neglect investigation had taken place last year at the rapper’s
home in Phoenix.
In that case, DMX was arrested in May on felony drug possession and misdemeanor
animal cruelty charges after authorities rescued 12 pit bull dogs from his home
and also dug up the remains of three other dogs. Several weapons were also
seized by police on that occasion.
The cover of his last album “Year of the Dog…Again,” which
was released in 2006, pictured him with a pit bull dog straining at the leash.
Surprisingly enough for a man charged for animal cruelty, DMX launched his own
line of dog clothing, which was named Boomer 129 after one of his neglected pit
bulls.
DMX is continuously getting arrested for his troubles with
the law, but it seems he just can’t get enough.
Earlier this month, the rap star was arrested at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
after failing to appear in court. In May, he was taken into custody for
allegedly speeding while driving with a suspended license.
This last arrest was the fifth one in the past three months
for DMX. No bond has yet been set for it, and officials said it was very
possible for the rapper to be isolated for safety purposes, if he remains in
jail, E! News reports.
