A Good Weekend At Box Office For “Baby Mama”

“Baby Mama”, the new comedy in which Tina Fey plays a career woman who feels that her biological clock ceased ticking subtly and is on the verge of ringing, was this weekend's winner at box office. The movie earned $18,271,000 in ticket sales after it was premiered in 2,543 theaters.

The second place was won by another comedy, “Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay”, that earned $14,570,000.

Last weekend's champion, “The Forbidden Kingdom”, has slipped to the third spot with $11,230,000 in earnings. The movie is directed by Rob Minkoff (“Stuart Little”) from a script written by John Fusco, and features stars Li Bingbing, Collin Chou, Michael Angarano and Liu Yifei. It tells the story of a faraway kingdom accessible only to the initiated, where Chan portrays a kung fu master with a taste for wine and Li a silent monk who seeks peace.

“Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” a comedy rated R for sexual content, language and some graphic nudity (most notably, a rare display of full-frontal male nudity), came in fourth, with $ $11,014,000. The movie opened last weekend on the second place.

With $4,525,000, “Nim’s Island”, a fantasy movie with Jodie Foster and Abigail Breslin won the fifth spot in this weekend’s box office. Abigail Breslin portrays Nim, a little girl who lives on a tropical island with her father, a scientist. When her father is caught in a storm, Nim turns for help to her favorite hero, Alex Rover, without knowing that she was just a fictional character created by a female author. The movie earned $38,954,000 since its release on April 4.

“Prom Night”, a PG-13 remake of a 1980 horror film, made it again in the Top 10, with $4,400,000 in ticket sales. The movie tells the story of Donna (Brittany Snow) who is the sole survivor of a stalker who killed her family three years earlier and who has returned to finish his job. Produced by Sony Pictures and its Screen Gems division, the movie’s budget was about $20 million.

Five weeks after its premiere, “21” still managed to attract the moviegoers and it ranked seventh with $4,000,000. In “21”, Kevin Spacey plays the role of Micky Rosa, an MIT math professor who gathers a group of students teaching them how to turn the odds at blackjack in their favor, ranked third with $3,300,000. The total gross of the movie has reached $ $75,775,000.

“88 Minutes”, the long awaited movie in which Al Pacino portrays Dr. Jack Gramm, a prosperous looking Seattle university professor and forensics expert, who is threatened to be killed in 88 minutes, slipped to the eight place $3,600,000.

“Horton Hears a Who!” ranked ninth, with $2,410,000, while McGregor and Jackman's “Deception” opened on the last place with $2,225,000.
