Everyone knows about the success that the iPhone has now. Apple’s new device created big hype among the company’s fans, but many other geeks fell in love with it as well.
However, while the iPhone is a lovable device for many reasons, a good part of the users blamed AT&T for locking the phone, as it works only in its network only. Subsequently, the iPhone world has waited for an application that would free their beloved device. Well, this application released by the Dev Team and it is called “yellowsn0w.”
First, the users have to update their iPhones and download the latest firmware, version 2.2. The firmware is available by clicking the “Update” button in iTunes. Next, users will have to download Quickpwn. The name of the app is easy to understand, as it will be used to jailbreak the iPhone prior to unlocking it from AT&T’s network. Before launching Quickpwn, users should backup all their program data and settings, along with their contacts and messages.
In order to launch Quickpwn, the iPhone has to be connected to the computer through a USB port. After that, users will have to download another program, called Cydia. This program will need to insert an application repository in order to launch “yellowsn0w” and unlock the iPhone.
After the process is complete, the last thing to do is to change the AT&T SIM card with the new one. As the iPhone was designed to be offered by a single carrier, switching the SIM card is not so easy and requires patience, a paper clip and step-by-step instructions found on the Internet. Users should also bear in mind that they should disable PIN codes from their SIM card prior to this step.
The unlocking process is not very demanding but, nonetheless, there are several users, which reported that they damaged their phones during the operation. More than that, it is expected that Apple will issue new version of iPhone’s firmware that will provide further security enhancements in order to prevent users to jailbreak their phones.
