AT&T Brings Its Own Geeks To The Table With ConnecTech

If you were used to call the Geek Squad for help, you should know there’s another geek team in town, this time provided by AT&T. The U.S. carrier launched the ConnecTech initiative, a home services care program that covers 50 states and offers technical support for virtually anything, from television and home theater installation, to personal computer and home network setup.

“AT&T has long been a familiar face in the homes of Americans — first installing phone service, high speed Internet service and now AT&T U-verse TV,” said Carmen Nava, senior vice president, Consumer Marketing Operations for AT&T. “Now, we are taking that expertise to a whole new level with robust in-home tech support, and with the same great customer service and reliability we've delivered for more than a century.”

The service is available for both AT&T and non AT&T customers, who can access www.att.com/connectech to start their ordering process. The services don’t exactly come cheap: $99 for computer and network installation, $179 for computer services and in-home support, $149 for television and home theatre, and $69 for PC/home network telephone support.

However, by making a comparison with the famous Geek Squad, these services actually come cheaper, so the competition is on! The AT&T services will cover in-home and over-the-phone support services, including next-day installation, seven days a week.

“The home services industry represents a billion dollar marketplace,” said Nava. “We’re using our strength in TV and broadband services to integrate both the product and care needs of today’s digital consumer.”

AT&T believes to have an advantage over the Geek Squad as a telecom provider. At the same time, they are just one of the big names that are now starting a tech support business. It’s nice to know we’ll have more choices!
