Wednesday,
AOL’s Bebo social network added a new tool to its string of features, called “Social
Inbox,” which aggregates a user’s friends’ activities from their online social
life, irrespectively of the network the latter have chosen to work with.
Social
networking websites like Facebook and FriendFeed can also add feeds from other
similar services, but Bebo does that without asking a user’s friends to join
the network so that the former can check out what they’ve been up to lately.
Bebo’s “Social
Inbox” feature allows you to see updates from people you are connected to via
any service, by aggregating them into your inbox on the site. All you need to
do is provide the service with your user ID on all the other websites you are a
member of and Bebo will make sure you know what your friends are doing.
Nevertheless,
some of the features for the aggregation tool are scheduled to become available
only in January 2009.
Bebo will
also offer the aggregation feature for e-mail inboxes from several
services a person is using, along with an embedded instant messaging function
that works via the AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) network.
Still, the tool is currently unable to integrate friends of
a user who are not on his or her buddy list on AIM, a feature that is yet to be
worked out by AOL.
In addition, Bebo will keep you posted on what content and
media links your friends are sharing, as well as enabling you to comment on the
feeds it gathers from other services.
