Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) confirmed that its Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Henri Richard will leave the company next month on “his own accord and on completely amicable terms.”
The official motivated his decision through a press release saying he “decided to make a move to a different business segment” after spending “20 years in the PC industry – and five of the most professionally rewarding years here at AMD.”
Richard held different management roles at Bell Microproducts, IBM and WebGain, Inc. before coming to the Sunnyvale-based company in 2002.
Richard said he is pleased with his achievements and expressed his belief that the “strong team” at AMD has the power “to break the monopoly that plagues this industry.”
His work at AMD was praised by the company’s Chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz.
“Henri’s primary goal at AMD has been to construct a world-class global sales and marketing organization focused on enduring relationships with major PC and server OEMs around the world. He delivered on that goal,” Ruiz said in a statement published on the company’s site.
The news comes in a time when AMD is trying to get back on its feet and shake losses that have been plaguing the company in the past period, causing it to lose ground in the face of its fiercest competitor Intel.
A first move will be made on September 10, when the semiconductors manufacturer announced the launch of a quad-core server processor dubbed Barcelona that is expected to fill the gap that cracked by low prices for its PC and corporate server chips.
