AMD re-launched the battle with Intel this week, by unveiling a few additions to its Phenom II line, namely 5 new processors for Socket AM3, with prices ranging from $125 to $225. Three of the new processors are quad-core, while the other two are triple-core, AMD revealed.

 

The most affordable of the quad-core processors is the Phenom II X4 810 model -- 2.6GHz, 95W, 2MB total dedicated L2 cache, 4MB L3 cache, 4000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM3 -- at $175.

 

The Phenom II X4 940 ‘Black Edition’ -- 3.0GHz, 125W, 2MB total dedicated L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache, 3600MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM2+ -- was priced at $225.

 

The third quad-core, the Phenom II X4 920, priced at $195, has the following specifications: 2.8GHz, 125W, 2MB total dedicated L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache, 3600MHz HyperTransport bus, socket Am2+.

 

The triple core processors are the Phenom II X3 710, priced at $125 (2.6GHZ, 95W, 1.5MB total dedicated L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache, 4000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM3), and the Phenom II X3 720, priced at $145 (2.8GHz, 95W, 1.5MB total dedicated L2 cache, 6MB L3 cache, 4000MHz HyperTransport bus, socket AM3).

 

The AMD Phenom II processor is part of the Dragon platform technology unveiled by AMD earlier this year, especially designed for high-definition gaming, video processing and entertainment at affordable prices.

 

AMD’s product line is looking better than ever, and most reviews seem to agree with that. All eyes are on Intel now, as the chipmaker is expected to answer the challenge with an offer just as good, or even better.
