AMD revealed yesterday first details about the world’s
fastest graphics card, ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2, which promises to advance visual
computing closer to eye-definition computing gaming and cinematic experiences,
as well as bring the best in terms of performance, with its 2.4 teraFLOPS of processing
power.
In addition to that, AMD also announced the slower, cheaper,
but capable of delivering “blistering performance” ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2
graphics card. Together with the HD 4870 X2, these cards comprise the ATI
Radeon 4800 X2 series, which combines the HD 4800 series GPUs with the
cross-GPU connection and two extra gigabytes of memory, more than any consumer
graphics card on the market.
“The ATI Radeon HD 4800 X2 series is proof that our graphics
strategy is working,” said Rick Bergman, senior vice president and general
manager, Graphics Products Group, AMD. “The response (…) regarding the ATI
Radeon HD 4800 series products has been incredibly positive,” he added,
highlighting the fact that AMD is determined to deliver the ultimate performance
with the ATI Radeon HD 4800 X2 series.
The HD 4800 X2 series, which is based on an advanced 55nm
design and DirectX 10.1 support, will deliver the ultimate experience for
enthusiastic gamers, by combining “astonishing frame rates” at extreme
resolution and image quality settings, AMD said.
The ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 is available from e-tailers for USD
$549 SRP, while the ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 will become available in September
for an estimated USD $399.
Yesterday AMD also revealed a new partnership with Blizzard
Entertainment, which will allow AMD to bundle all Blizzard games across ATI
Radeon graphics products for an improved gaming experience. AMD is also the
official sponsor of the upcoming BlizzCon 2008 that will take place in Anaheim
on October 10-11, 2008.
