ABC’s New Game Show ‘Duel’ Debuts Tonight

Monday, December 17, ABC will launch the new game show “Duel,” in order to fill the void caused by the strike.

“Duel” will air for six nights from 8 to 9 p.m. and will be hosted by Mike Greenberg from ESPN’s “Mike and Mike in the morning,” the Washington Times informs.

The new game show combines elements from “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” and “Texas hold-em poker.”

It involves 24 contestants who compete for a jackpot over six episodes, Blog Critics Magazine said.

Mike Greenberg says that the difference between “Deal” and other game shows is that he gives away money, Daily News reports. This means that the winner can take home over $1.5 million.

The contestants have to answer multiple choice questions. They receive at the beginning of each round 10 chips, each representing $5,000. The contestant will have to bet on his own answer. So he can use as many chips he wants to remain in the game. If he’s not confident in giving any answer, he can use four chips for all multiple choice answers. If he decides to do this move to remain in the game, he will lose three chips that go to the jackpot.

An interesting part of “Duel” is the “pressure” button. One contestant may used against another contestant because they don’t have any limit on time, but if they think that it takes too much time to their opponent to answer, they can use it, thus allowing their opponent to come up with an answer within seven seconds.

The “pressure” button may be used by each contestant two times per duel. This will keep the game on the go.

The contestants will be labeled by their occupation. Among the first 24 contestants the will be The Belly Dancer, The Lunch Lady, the Funeral Home Owner. This move is for home viewer to attach to their favorite player and watch the whole program.

The game is hosted by Mike Greenberg and two chip girls Jennifer Aguero and Olivia Fox.

“My role is to bring out the personality of each one, so people can get a sense of who they are and whether they like them or not, and whether or not they want to see them win enough money to absolutely change their lives," Greenberg said.

“Duel” will have to compete with NBC’s own game/reality show “Clash of the Choirs” that starts on Monday night as well.
