Fox has had several attempts at banning one of its top prime-time shows, the animated series “King of the Hill,” which is the second longest-running in history, surpassed only by the longevity of pop-culture series “The Simpsons”.
Fox has a habit of wrapping up shows only to reconsider their actions and order more episodes. “Family Guy” and “Futurama” have both undergone similar experiences with Fox during the last few years. However, there is not much chance for Fox to pick up “King of the Hill” again. After debuting in 1997 and having 260 episodes aired, this seems to be the end of the collaboration between Fox and the animated series. Unfortunately, “King of the Hill” fans will not get closure – no final episode was ordered by Fox. But the network is certainly not running short of animated comedy series, as two new shows are already in production, namely “Sit Down, Shut Up” and “The Cleveland Show” a spin-off of popular series “Family Guy”, centering around hilarious character Cleveland.
The creators of the show, Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, had also seemingly moved on, as Daniels moved to the “The Office Team” and Judge was focusing on “The Goode Family”, a show which will soon be launched.
Despite Fox’s actions, it seems that this is not the end of “King of the Hill” – at least not entirely. The series had not decreased in quality and their rating had not dropped, so it’s no wonder that other networks are now fighting over the show.
ABC is at the top of the list for broadcasting “King of the Hill”. Other networks have also manifested quite a bit of interest in the animated series, such as Comedy Central, FX and Cartoon Network. It’s uncertain whether the show will enjoy the same popularity if it will be taken over by another network and probably another airing hour, especially since Fox has filled it’s time slot.
