A380's Promotional Tour To Begin

A380, world’s largest plane, will make a stop in Taipei next month as part of its promotional Asian tour, according to an airport official.

"The A380 will make the promotional landing between June 8-10 at the Taoyuan International Airport to test the airport's compatibility and allow people to visit the jet," Huang Chi-ming, an official from the Taoyuan International Airport, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

The airport needs to make some adjustments to its taxiway, which is currently only 30m wide. A380’ wingspan is 80m, and may have to make some more reconfigurations if the A380 starts commercial flights to the airport.

On Monday, Airbus Industrie announced the route for A380's latest demonstration tour. Narita (Japan) June 4-6, to Sydney (Australia) June 6-8 and to Taipei June 8-10.

"We will evaluate all aircraft types for upgrading our long-haul fleet," Sun Hung-wen, from CAL's press office, told dpa.

Airbus Indstrie is scheduled to deliver the first double decked-555 passengers A380, to the Singapore Airlines in October, followed by delivery to Emirates Airlines and Qantas.
