A man opened fire in the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, according to KETV television station. A black man that was described as wearing an Army-green vest and carrying a rifle was the one responsible for the shooting.
Sgt Teresa Negron, spokesman for the Omaha Police Department, said during an official statement that nine people have died from their wounds. Two people are currently in critical conditions. The shooter is deceased and his body wasn't moved from the crime scene yet. The corpse is reportedly at the third floor of the mall.
Two people that have been injured were seen as the rescue teams were removing them from the mall on stretchers. The rescue workers were taking more stretchers inside the building of Westroads Mall.
Reports from other sources differ. According to KMTV, up to 10 people may have been shot. The facts and details regarding the killer are also still unclear. Some sources reported that there were actually two shooters: a white male and a black male, both wearing camouflage.
A witness reportedly told KMTV that he saw the police officers arresting a man who was hiding under a bus stop bench near the Westroads Mall. The witness, Todd Trimpe, said the man was wearing a camouflage uniform.
Jennifer Kramer, a witness, told MSNBC she heard 35 to 40 shots as she was taking cover inside the mall.
The U.S. President was in town Wednesday as he participated at a fundraiser in Omaha. Bush left about an hour before the shooting.
