An 8-year-old boy from Dorchester
was hailed as hero on Tuesday after saving the life of his mother when he
called 911 while she was having a seizure on Monday.
Jesus Lorenzo calmly dialed 911 and told the dispatcher
about the symptoms of his mother, Melissa Vazquez who was suffering a grand mal
seizure. He also corrected the dispatcher about their address.
Emergency Medical Services Chief Richard Serino said Jesus
was given directions, which he followed. “Jesus remained cool, calm and
collected, like many of our veteran EMS
workers,” he said, as quoted by the Boston Herald.
After calling 911, Jesus got his two young sisters, ages 4
years and 6 months, ready to go to the hospital while calling family members to
inform them on what had happened.
For his brave attitude, Boston Emergency Medical Services
was honoring Jesus at a press conference outside his home as the city’s newest
hero.
This wasn’t the first time, Jesus called 911 to help his
mother. She started having seizures four years ago while being pregnant with
one of his sisters. At age 5, Jesus’ parents taught him what to do in case his
mother needed help showing him how to dial 911 and what to say.
“I couldn’t have done it without my mother. And I learned to
be calm from my dad,” Jesus said while being gifted with a junior EMS badge and other gifts from medical personnel.
His mother who was watching the festivity from home said she
had always been proud of her son.
