A suicide bomber claimed ten lives on Wednesday in an attack
which occurred in a market north of Baghdad,
according to an Iraqi army officer.
General Ragheb al-Omayri said: "A suicide bomber
wearing an explosives belt blew himself up in the market of Muqdadiyah, killing
at least 10 people and wounding 15 others," AFP reports.
Muqdadiyah is located about 30 miles northeast of Baquba,
which is the capital of Diyala province. The province is now seen as the most
dangerous region in Iraq after
Al-Qaeda insurgents were chased out by the U.S.
and Iraqi forces from Baghdad
and surrounding regions.
According to a source from the town’s hospital, seven bodies
arrived at the hospital so far, Reuters informs.
Diyala province has become the target of an operation against
Al-Qaeda. The operation is called Operation Iron Harvest and part of the
Phantom Phoenix attack launched on January 8 targets insurgents all over the
country.
In the meantime, other violence acts erupted in Iraq. According
to a police officer, four policemen died during their patrol in the main
northern city of Mosul.
Also one woman was killed and eight others were injured in a
suicide bomb attack.
The attacker blew his car in the town of Tal
Afar, located west of Mosul,
to the Syrian border, according to General Najim al-Juburi and doctor at the
local hospital.
