At least seven people were killed after a small plane crashed on Monday on Cascade Mountain. Seven of the ten skydivers were found inside the wrecked plane and the other three are missing. However, the rescue teams in search of the three in the heavily wooded area near Boise, Idaho said that it’s very likely that they are already dead.
The crashed plane, a single-engine Cessna 208 Caravan, was found Monday night, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported. The authorities identified the plane by checking its serial number.
The plane with ten people on plane - one pilot and nine sky-diving passengers - took off Sunday for jumps as the season was ending. The authorities discovered the wrecked plane at about 7:40 p.m. in a heavily wooded area east of White Pass in the Cascades mountain range.
A camper who was in the area when the Cessna 208 Caravan crashed said he witnessed the plane flying very low and heard it crash into the woods on Sunday evening near Rimrock Lake. The rescue team found the plane as they followed the odor of fuel to the site of the impact.
The search resumed early Tuesday and there were approximately 50 search-and-rescue personnel gathered from across the state along with six planes and two helicopters, the Yakima (Wash.) Herald-Republic said.
"Seven people on board have been found deceased. Recovery efforts were suspended for the night but were to resume Tuesday," Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin said in an official statement.
Although the plane was equipped with an emergency locator transmitter, no emergency signal had been detected as of Monday evening, according to WSDOT.
