60 Pounds of Marijuana Found on I-4, Turned Over to Police

Sixty pounds of freshly harvested marijuana were found and taken to the Florida police station on Tuesday. They were found by a crew that was gathering litter from the streets. The finders said the 60 pounds were stuffed into two large plastic garbage bags that were probably dumped along Interstate 4 near Tampa.

The police that received the two large bags of marijuana issued an announcement in which they are asking the owners or anyone that has info on the bags to contact them.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the police's press release read: "Anyone missing their bags of marijuana or knows how these bags made their way onto the interstate system is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol."

The 60 pounds of marijuana were estimated to be worth about $54,000 on the street. The investigators took in consideration two possibilities: the bags were dumped along the roadside or they fell, FHP Trooper Larry Coggins said. He added that it’s not the largest amount of marijuana ever dumped along a roadside, but it’s certainly not something one finds every day.

The crew that was cleaning the road spotted the bags near McIntosh Road, about 70 miles west of Orlando. "The clean up crew thought the bags looked suspicious so they turned them over to the Florida Highway Patrol," said Coggins.

Compared to the amount of drugs found by the police in Emmett Township, Mich. last week - 859 pounds of marijuana according to the Detroit Free Press – the two bags do not sound so impressive anylonger.
