LAPD are investigating a case in which five people that were gunned down and killed in a homeless encampment. The accident occurred on Sunday south of Los Angeles in Long Island.
The police investigators have no idea who might have killed the two homeless women and three men. Police do not have a suspect and are now trying to find the caller who first informed them about the crimes.
The five corpses were found Sunday in between commercial buildings and Interstate 405 in Long Beach. Police officers were sent to the scene after dispatchers received an anonymous phone call at about 8:30 a.m.
"We're still trying to find out who that person was; we would love for them to come forward," Long Beach Deputy Police Chief Robert Luna said.
"We believe they have more information than what they gave us."
Although the crimes scene is near the Interstate 405 and thousands of motorists pass it by every day, the encampment is hidden by a heavy brush and consequently there are no eyewitnesses to the crimes. There were only some neighbors who heard the gunfire and yelling, but did not see anything.
The bodies are at the county coroner's office and investigators are tying to identify them and establish how long they had been dead. Some of the victims were shot several times.
"Because of the rains last night and the heavy foliage in the area where the crime occurred, the investigative process will be slow and methodical," Luna said.
